Soil Prep

A proper soil prep will conserve water and ensure a healthy environment for the lawn and plant material. Our soil prep begins with the right of equipment in order to get the compost deep into ground and break up the existing clay soil. Spreading some black dirt on top of hard clay is no substitute for a soil prep.

Our soil prep uses composted dairy manure at a rate of 5 cubic yards per 1000 square feet (approximately 2″ thick). We then rip the existing soil and compost with 8″ ripper teeth mounted on a skid steer. After ripping the soil, we till it with a skid steer mounted tiller, followed by a final grade with a box scraper roller.
